About The Position

J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc. is seeking to add an Independent Contractor to our EHS Consulting practice who has subject matter expertise in Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) regulations. This opportunity is for an Independent Contractor only and does not constitute an employment relationship. Independent Contractors must reside in the U. S. and be legally authorized to perform services within the United States. To be considered as an Independent Contractor, individuals must operate as an independent safety consulting business, provide services to multiple clients, supply their own tools, methodologies, instructional materials, and business processes, be responsible for all taxes, insurance, and business-related expenses, provide their own computer, equipment, and tools, and maintain appropriate professional liability coverage. Travel requirements vary based on client engagements, audit needs, and training delivery, and are defined by project or statement of work.

Requirements

  • Operate as an independent safety consulting business (e.g., sole proprietor, incorporated entity, or equivalent)
  • Provide services to multiple clients and maintain a non-exclusive consulting practice
  • Supply their own tools, methodologies, instructional materials, and business processes necessary to deliver services
  • Be responsible for all taxes, insurance, and business-related expenses
  • Provide their own computer, equipment, and tools necessary to perform services
  • Maintain appropriate professional liability coverage, as required under the contractual agreement
  • Demonstrated expertise providing safety consulting, regulatory advisory, auditing, and training services to commercial or industrial clients.
  • Proven history of providing independent safety consulting services within consulting and/or complex corporate environments.
  • Extensive experience advising Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) requirements, including interpretation and application of applicable regulations.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate health/safety aspects of mining industry operations and processes.
  • Knowledge of applicable MSHA federal, state, and local rules and regulations with the ability to educate, train, and mentor on the applications and impacts on operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of sales, marketing, and finance concepts related to operating an independent consulting practice.
  • Proficiency using business productivity tools (MS Office suite) necessary to deliver reports, presentations, and training materials.
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal, written and presentation
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with client representatives at all levels.
  • Maintains a high level of regulatory expertise.
  • Understanding of sales, marketing, and business finance concepts/applications.
  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle to perform required services.

Responsibilities

  • Provides expert advice and recommendations on matters related to mine health and safety with an emphasis on the safety program, policy, and procedures areas.
  • Assist in implementing National and District level health and safety policies with responsibility for the safety program areas.
  • Monitors and assists with the interpretation or implementation of new or revised safety policies or procedures and assists with compliance.
  • Provide expert technical assistance with the identification of known and/or potential safety hazards.
  • Analyze and suggests revisions of plans submitted by mines for their compliance with current rules and regulations.
  • Prepare and conduct safety-related training courses explaining MSHA policy and procedures.
