About The Position
This position is for an Athletic Coach for MS Girls Volleyball at Bret Harte for the Fall 2026 season. All athletic coach hires and work schedules are contingent upon student enrollment, sports sign-ups, and the developed sports schedules for the season. The coach will instruct and coach students in the sport, help arrange playing schedules, perform all coaching responsibilities, and attend required meetings and trainings.
Requirements
- Fundamentals of Coaching (HIGH SCHOOL) certification (does not expire).
- Middle School Coaching (MIDDLE SCHOOL) certification (does not expire).
- Concussion in Sports certification (expires every 3 years).
- Sudden Cardiac Arrest certification (expires every 2 years).
- Heat Illness Prevention certification (expires every 2 years).
- CPR & FIRST AID from an instructor-led class certification (expires every 2 years).
- Provide written evidence indicating knowledge of the coaching theory and techniques in the sport (e.g., college coursework, prior coaching experience, prior participation at high school level, or in-service training).
- Knowledge of rules and regulations of the sport at the high school level.
- Knowledge of adolescent psychology as it relates to sports participation (college courses or prior active involvement with youth in school/community sports programs).
- Knowledge, skill, and ability sufficient to maintain high standards of safety in all aspects of coaching at practices and contests.
- Demonstrated high ethical standards related to sportsmanship, fair play, and relationships with students.
- Recognition of the need to communicate with parents/guardians and appropriate school staff regarding problems or emergencies.
- Knowledge of school policies and California Interscholastic Federation (C.I.F.) policies related to athletics.
- Ability to meet the standards for the district’s athletic program, including instilling teamwork, commitment, and discipline.
- Ability to develop positive relations and support from parents and the community.
- Ability to offer academic encouragement and support to students.

- Current certificated employees of Oakland Unified School District who possess a valid CA teaching credential.
Responsibilities
