About The Position

The MRO Buyer is responsible for sourcing materials and services, negotiating costs and delivery schedules, and maintaining various inventory and purchasing systems. This role also involves overseeing parts room clerks, assisting with investment recovery, and developing departmental processes. The position requires strong analytical and organizational skills, computer proficiency, and the ability to work effectively in both office and plant environments.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School education; post-secondary preferred.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Access, Word, and Excel.
  • Excellent Math skills.
  • Ability to read, communicate clearly, interpret, and follow written and verbal instructions in English.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Analytical thinking, with the ability to understand overall visions and minute details.
  • 3-5 years of MRO or purchasing experience.
  • Ability to obtain a passport to travel if necessary.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle to commute to other plant locations.

Responsibilities

  • Sources materials and services, considering quality and price for comparable items.
  • Negotiates cost, freight, stock levels, and delivery schedules with vendors.
  • Negotiates vendor off-site inventory where applicable.
  • Performs project PO/PR closing according to current account guidelines.
  • Maintains CMMS modules to reflect up-to-date plant conditions.
  • Ensures Bills of Materials (BOMs) are established for all assets.
  • Maintains purchase order systems to reflect current accounting guidelines on tax-exempt purchases.
  • Maintains plant asset systems to reflect up-to-date plant conditions.
  • Maintains MRO inventory stocking levels, ensuring minimum and maximum stock quantities are correct for operations.
  • Upkeeps the daily maintenance “checkbook” and ensures accuracy.
  • Produces a purchasing report weekly as directed by the maintenance manager, including budget status, weekly, MTD and YTD spend, and past due POs.
  • Works closely with accounting to monitor and report open POs to ensure correct accrual levels are met.
  • Maintains an annual “Capital Project Purchasing” file with a summation sheet.
  • Supervises parts room clerks.
  • Assists the Plant Engineer & Maintenance Manager in implementing an investment recovery system for surplus equipment or materials (e.g., parts, scrap recovery, disposition) to recover original capital investment.
  • Performs other duties as required by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Daily purchasing of all supplies.
  • Oversees parts storage and inventory areas to ensure high standards of safety, operating efficiency, and housekeeping.
  • Ensures cycle count schedules are met.
  • Develops process/workflows for all processes in the department.
