About The Position

The MRI Technologist is responsible for examining requests and verifying orders on each assigned patient. They will refer and question orders to the Radiologist before performing the exam and contact the ordering provider when there are discrepancies. The technologist will properly identify patients using two identifiers, assist them, and offer a brief explanation of the procedures. Patients will be prepared for the procedure with a full explanation and documentation on appropriate worksheets. The technologist will interview patients for a complete medical history, review in-patients, ER, and outpatients EMRs to obtain pertinent clinical history, and record medical history on requisitions. They will correlate other test results and laboratory data with the exam being performed and assume responsibility for the exam from beginning to completion of dictated results. The technologist prepares and administers IV contrast according to departmental protocols, records contrast type and amount upon request, and evaluates the technical quality of images, consulting with a Radiologist if needed. They recognize abnormal anatomy and process any additional, reconstructed images, and/or measurements as instructed. Basic patient care functions are performed, and appropriate nursing personnel are informed of any changes in the patient’s condition. Life support measures are initiated for patients when necessary, and assistance is provided during "code blue" procedures during medical emergencies. The technologist performs MRI scanning and assists Physicians/PA during invasive procedures, practicing proper sterile technique in the preparation of necessary supplies. All invasive procedures are performed in accordance with bloodborne pathogens, isolation, and infection control policies and procedures. The technologist is authorized to obtain medication or contrast material as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner. They practice the principles of radiation safety for self, employees, patients, and family members, and follow appropriate radiation safety standards. Malfunctioning equipment is reported to the department director/manager/supervisor and clinical engineering/radiology engineer. Knowledge and skills required to work safely in an environment that can create significant exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious disease are maintained. Hospital fire and safety procedures are adhered to, and all in-service classes and required safety modules are completed. The radiology computer system is operated, including entering orders and charging procedures/supplies. Contrast administration is documented in the MAR. The assigned work area is maintained in a neat and orderly fashion, kept fully stocked, and cleaned to promote cleanliness. Assistance is provided to other medical personnel, such as anesthesia, when performing exams or services in conjunction with an MRI scan. Knowledge of all MRI safety requirements for both staff and patients while in and around magnetic fields is maintained.

Requirements

• Graduate of an institution accredited by an agency that ARRT recognizes in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology.
• Active enrollment in an MRI ARRT registry eligible or ARMRIT program required.
• MRI registry must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
• BLS
• Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development.
• Demonstrates the skills and competency appropriate to the ages, culture, developmental stages, and special needs of the patient population served.

• Keeps area completely stocked.
• Cleans all work areas to promote cleanliness in the workplace.
• Assists other medical personnel, such as anesthesia, when performing exams or services in conjunction with a MRI scan.
• Maintains knowledge of all MRI safety requirements for both staff and patients while in and around magnetic fields.
