About The Position

The MRI Technologist performs magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The technologist is responsible for operating MRI equipment, ensuring patient safety and comfort, maintaining imaging quality standards, and complying with all applicable federal, state, and organizational regulations.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • Current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography (R) and MRI (MR), or eligible to obtain MRI certification within a specified timeframe.
  • Current South Carolina radiation quality standards compliance, if applicable.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Thorough knowledge of MRI principles, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergencies.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years or more of MRI experience in a hospital, outpatient imaging center, or physician practice setting.
  • Advanced MRI certifications or specialty training.
  • Experience with electronic medical records and PACS systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform MRI examinations in accordance with physician orders and established protocols.
  • Prepare patients for MRI procedures by explaining the process, obtaining relevant medical history, and screening for contraindications.
  • Position patients appropriately to obtain high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Operate MRI equipment safely and efficiently while adhering to established imaging protocols.
  • Monitor patients during procedures and respond appropriately to emergencies or adverse reactions.
  • Administer contrast media as prescribed and in accordance with facility policies and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and document procedures in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Ensure compliance with MRI safety standards, infection control practices, and patient confidentiality requirements.
  • Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot MRI equipment and report equipment issues promptly.
  • Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to provide quality patient care.
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
  • Maintain continuing education requirements and professional certifications.
