About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY Performs duties of an MRI Technologist to achieve efficient, high quality patient care.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or its equivalent.
  • Graduate of an approved two year Radiology training Program.
  • Must have the ability to function as a team member and the ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with patients, staff members and physicians.
  • Registered with the ARRT.
  • Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.

  • MRI experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient care/technical duties in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Greets each patient in a pleasant manner and provides excellent customer service to the patients, families and other staff members they come in contact with.
  • Evaluates request for correctness of examinations ordered.
  • Checks diagnosis, physician order, lab results and patient identification prior to exam.
  • Obtains prior and current patient history: documents pertinent information in PACS and Meditech.
  • Reviews screening form for contraindications to MRI.
  • Re-screens patient and changes patient into gown prior to entering MRI unit.
  • Provides patient education as a means to relieve patient anxiety and ensuring maximum cooperation during the MRI procedure.
  • Prepares and positions patients for the MRI procedure.
  • Determines and sets proper protocols for view/examination.
  • Takes correct views for examination.
  • Demonstrates IV competency, performs blood draws and point of care lab testing as needed.
  • Documents history and other necessary items MRI screening forms as well as in PACS and Meditech.
  • Maintains adequate inventory for work area.
  • Keeps work area clean and orderly.
  • Ensures that patients are properly prepped prior to performing procedure.
  • Determines proper dosage of contrast and injects contrast media following department protocols.
  • Performs MRI scans according to established procedures.
  • Performs training and directs other personnel entering the MRI area.
  • Seeks clinical guidance from Radiologists for difficult/unusual cases.
  • Assists in the scheduling especially with emergency or unusual cases.
  • Performs other related technical patient care duties as assigned.
  • Performs shut down procedure of unit as needed.
  • Assists Radiologist during special procedure examinations.
  • Burns CD’s when needed.
  • Provides documentation for department and medical center functions.
  • Oversees documentation of patient care activities in PACS and Meditech.
  • Participates in quality assurance program as outlined by the department's quality assurance program.
  • Documents deviations from established policies and procedures and reports deviations to supervisor.
  • Accurately completes Medical Center incident reports and reportable occurrence online when necessary.
  • Performs assigned quality control duties accurately and timely.
  • Assists in explaining policies, procedures and clerical functions to the radiology students as directed.
  • Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
