About The Position

The MRI Technologist I position is an entry‑level role that, under direct supervision, performs routine MRI examinations in accordance with established protocols, safety guidelines, and quality standards. The role involves utilizing core knowledge, skills, abilities, and available resources to provide safe, high‑quality, efficient, and patient‑centered care and support services under routine or emergent conditions. Care is delivered under appropriate supervision across a variety of settings. This position also requires preparing patients for procedures, correlating clinical history with physician‑ordered exams, safely administering contrast per protocol, and recognizing basic imaging artifacts with corrective measures. Effective communication and collaboration with patients, families, and the care team are essential. The technologist will accurately transfer images and data, complete basic technical documentation, and prepare studies for physician reporting. Operator‑level quality control checks, cleaning, high‑level disinfection, and basic equipment maintenance are also key responsibilities. Active participation in continuing education and professional development is expected. Support for inventory tasks is also required. If trained and verified in Cardiac MRI, additional responsibilities include acquiring standard cardiac imaging sequences, applying ECG gating techniques, troubleshooting basic ECG signal issues, and recognizing common rhythm patterns.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited imaging, radiology or nuclear medicine program as defined by ARRT or ARMRIT or Completion of JRCERT accredited Military Educational Program is accepted in lieu of other educational requirements (Level 1).
  • 0-3 years experience (Level 1).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • ARRT(RT) or ARMRIT certification required within 12 months of hire (Level 1).
  • Associate's Degree required (Level 2).
  • 3-5 years of MRI experience required (Level 2).
  • ARRT (RT)(MR) or ARMRIT certification is required upon hire (Level 2).
  • Foundational knowledge of normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology, basic radiologic technology concepts, and MRI‑related terminology.
  • Applies core MRI theory, practices, and techniques to perform examinations and complete basic post‑processing, analysis, and documentation with general supervision or assistance.
  • Ability to work as part of a diverse team and communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete assigned clinical and non‑clinical work tasks with guidance and direction.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and remain composed in stressful situations with guidance and support.
  • Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply HIPAA guidelines and standards.
  • Displays consistency and dependability by reporting to work as scheduled.
  • Ability to be sensitive to patients’ physical and psychological needs.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and work accurately with names, numbers, and codes.
  • Proficiency in breath hold coaching, patient positioning, cardiac anatomy identification (if trained in Cardiac MRI).
  • Knowledge of cardiac MRI contraindications (if trained in Cardiac MRI).
  • Knowledge and understanding of cardiac anatomy and physiology (if trained in Cardiac MRI).

Responsibilities

  • Carries out operator‑level quality control checks, cleaning, high‑level disinfection, and basic equipment maintenance.
  • Accurately document in EMR/PACS.
  • Actively participates in continuing education, professional development, and research initiatives.
  • Supports inventory tasks as needed.
  • Acquire standard cardiac imaging sequences including: LV function imaging, Short-axis cine stacks, basic morphology and functional assessments (if trained in Cardiac MRI).
  • Apply ECG gating techniques including: retrospective gating, prospective gating, real-time imaging as indicated (if trained in Cardiac MRI).
  • Troubleshoot basic ECG signal issues (if trained in Cardiac MRI).
  • Recognize common rhythm patterns (if trained in Cardiac MRI).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
