About The Position

To provide all functions necessary for MRI procedures. To provide the best care possible to the patient "Give them more than they expect."

Requirements

  • Two years to five years of similar or related experience.
  • Equivalent to a college degree.
  • Completion of course in Radiologic technology approved by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Current certification (ARRT) with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and/or registered in MR with current certification with the ARRT.
  • Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology to focus the exam on the area of concern.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions.
  • Knowledge of MRI physics and instrumentation to provide the best possible image quality.
  • Knowledge of the effects of strong magnetic fields and radio frequencies on humans, equipment, and objects that could enter the field and appropriate safety measures in these environments.
  • Skill in vein cannulization.
  • Skill in recognizing and responding to patient's needs.
  • Skill in monitoring the patient's condition.
  • Skill in sterile techniques and procedures.
  • Skill in maintaining records and recording information.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to react calmly to emergency situations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply established guidelines, yet be flexible to meet the individual needs of the patient.
  • Ability to work with general supervision, structuring own work patterns within the general outline, referring unusual situations or problems to the supervisor.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to work effectively during periods of stress resulting from patient flow and office demands.
  • Manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination for operation and repair of all departmental equipment.
  • Eyesight correctable to 20/20 to operate equipment and review developed films.

Nice To Haves

  • Persons with cardiac pacemakers, internal cardiac defibrillators, brain aneurysm clips, or cochlear implants are precluded from working in the MRI environment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs MRI procedures as directed by physicians.
  • Elicits pertinent information concerning the procedure and the patient's history from the medical chart and the patient.
  • Explains the procedure to the patient.
  • Positions the patient appropriately.
  • Selects the appropriate scan protocol and parameters.
  • Cannulates veins for administration of contrast material or other medication.
  • Assists the radiologist during special procedures.
  • Monitors the patient's condition during procedures.
  • Sends images electronically to be read by the Radiologist.
  • Schedules patients for MRI procedures and gives them instructions.
  • Screens patients for any contraindication to MRI.
  • Stays current on MRI safety.
  • Performs Quality Control Testing.
  • Performs ACR testing and maintains proper documentation per ACR guidelines.
  • Maintains scan and imaging equipment in good condition.
  • Keeps work area clean, organized, and stocked with supplies necessary for MRI procedures.
  • Performs related work as required.
