About The Position

The MRI Technologist is responsible for performing high-quality magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures in accordance with physician orders, departmental protocols, and regulatory standards. Technologists ensure patient safety, comfort, and confidentiality while maintaining compliance with MRI safety guidelines, ACR standards, and facility policies.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited MRI program.
  • State licensure (if required).
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Strong knowledge of MRI safety principles, imaging equipment, and MRI contrast handling.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.
  • ARRT certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) required or obtained within a specified timeframe

Responsibilities

  • Perform MRI examinations according to established protocols and physician orders
  • Position patients accurately and select appropriate imaging parameters
  • Operate MRI equipment and related imaging software safely and efficiently
  • Recognize and troubleshoot image quality issues and equipment malfunctions
  • Administer contrast agents in accordance with facility policy and scope of practice
  • Verify patient identity and exam orders prior to imaging
  • Screen patients for MRI safety, including implants, devices, and contraindications
  • Educate patients regarding procedures and provide reassurance throughout the exam
  • Monitor patients during scans for signs of distress or adverse reactions
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA
  • Enforce MRI safety protocols and zone restrictions
  • Perform and document MRI safety screening for patients, visitors, and staff
  • Ensure proper use of MRI-safe and MRI-conditional equipment
  • Respond appropriately to MRI emergencies per facility policy
  • Maintain compliance with ACR, Joint Commission, and regulatory standards
  • Accurately document patient history, screening, and exam details
  • Maintain proper exam records in PACS/RIS and electronic medical records
  • Assist with quality assurance and quality control activities
  • Participate in accreditation and audit processes as required
  • Perform daily equipment checks and basic troubleshooting
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe MRI suite
  • Report equipment issues, safety concerns, or incidents promptly
  • Foster a professional, respectful, and confidential environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Promote open communication, trust, and collaboration within the department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet organizational needs.
