About The Position

The MRI Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic imaging procedures using magnetic resonance imaging equipment. This role ensures patient safety, maintains equipment, and adheres to established protocols and regulations. Technologists play a key role in delivering high-quality imaging services and supporting departmental quality assurance and accreditation efforts.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in MRI equipment operation and safety protocols
  • Strong communication and patient care skills
  • Ability to follow and adapt imaging protocols
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA, and QA regulations
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in radiologic technology or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of MRI experience

Nice To Haves

  • ARRT (MR) certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Reviews metal screening and history forms with the patient prior to starting the exam.
  • Ensures that any required consent forms are signed prior to examination.
  • Review chart for authorization approval, body part matches the office note
  • Understands MRI protocols and knows when to call the reading Radiologist with a protocol question.
  • Can manually pull the patient out of the scanner if the power is down.
  • Knowledge of how to use all the different MRI coils.
  • Thoroughly explains the MRI procedure with the patient.
  • Instructs the patient throughout the entire procedure.
  • Assesses the patient’s condition prior to performing the MRI procedure.
  • Actively participates in the Quality Assurance monitoring and recording efforts of the department.
  • In charge of accreditation process.
  • Maintains equipment according to protocol.
  • Advises supervisor and medical staff of any problems with MRI procedures, efficiency, safety and overall service.
  • Follows all State and Local Regulations including OSHA, HIPAA, and QA Protocol.
  • Ensures equipment is in working order.
  • Report equipment malfunctions to Field Engineer.
  • Knows each doctor’s protocol.
  • Changes and update protocol lists as needed.
  • Responsible for cleaning MRI room and what equipment is not permitted in the MRI room.
  • Ensures that only screened personnel are allowed in the MRI room.
  • Under no circumstances will anyone be allowed in the MRI room without being screened first.
  • Ensures that only equipment with MR safe stickers are allowed in the MRI room.
  • Record keeping and billing information.
  • Complies with patient confidentiality (HIPAA) and Red Flag Rules.
