About The Position

The MRI Technologist performs MRI examinations on patients based on department procedures and under direction of department Section Chief and Manager. This role is responsible for the successful technical continuity of care for patients receiving MRI studies. The technologist communicates clinical observations made during MRI examinations to radiologists and presents clinical history as recorded on appropriate documentation. They demonstrate competency in venipuncture for contrast administration and in the knowledge of RIS/HIS modules relevant to their responsibilities. The role also involves assisting in data gathering for the Radiology Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement program, adhering to downtime procedures, and maintaining professional development through in-services and continuing education. Additionally, the MRI Technologist provides educational information to patients about their examination, ensures the quality of digital images sent to PACS, verifies correct patient selection and accuracy of Medical Record information, and reviews patient safety checklists prior to studies. They are accountable for the department's success in achieving Press Ganey goals, ensuring every patient receives education and a personalized business card, and sending apology cards when patient expectations are not met.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an ARRT recognized education program, or ARRT or ARMRIT registered, or ARRT or ARMRIT registry eligible.
  • Advanced MRI registry required within 1 year of hire.
  • Current BLS certification required within 3 months of hire.
  • Must not have any metal implants or pacemaker, which would be a contraindication to work around the MRI magnet.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience as a staff technologist preferred.
  • 1-year experience as an MRI technologist preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs MRI examinations on patients based on department procedures and under direction of department Section Chief and Manager.
  • Responsible for the successful technical continuity of care for patients receiving MRI studies.
  • Communicates to radiologists clinical observations made during MRI examination.
  • Presents clinical history as recorded on appropriate documentation to radiologist.
  • Demonstrates competency in venipuncture skill for patients requiring contrast administration during MRI studies.
  • Demonstrates competency in the knowledge of the RIS/HIS modules appropriate to their job responsibilities.
  • Assists in gathering, recording data and serving as committee member for Radiology Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement program.
  • Accurately adheres to downtime procedures to assure appropriate information is available resulting in excellent continuity of care for patients.
  • Maintains responsibility for own professional development through active participation in in-services and/or continuing education programs.
  • Provides educational information to the patient regarding their examination.
  • Accountable for quality of digital images sent to PACS.
  • Verify correct patient is selected from worklist, ensures accuracy of Medical Record information prior to being sent to PACS.
  • Reviews patient safety checklist prior to patient’s study.
  • Responsible for the success of the department to achieve Press Ganey goal.
  • Every patient should receive patient education and your personalized business card.
  • Apology cards should be sent or given to all patients when we do not meet their expectations.
