About The Position

The Intern MRI Tech has the unique opportunity to be hired while enrolled in an accredited MRI program. The Intern MRI Tech will focus on patient safety and required to function within the parameters of the legal scope of practice and in accordance with the federal, state, and local laws; rules and regulations; and policies, procedures and guidelines of the employing health care institution or practice setting. The Intern MRI Tech is responsible for transporting the patient to and from the department, completing all necessary documentation, and once the patient is in the department may position and prepare equipment for his/her MRI, depending upon student level of training in an MRI program.

Requirements

  • ARRT registered or eligible.
  • For ARMRIT pathway, must be enrolled or graduated from MA, RN, CNA, EMT or other allied health field and is eligible to be enrolled in an Accredited MRI program.
  • Must obtain MRI registry for ARMRIT candidates within 6 months of becoming registry eligible or must obtain ARRT MRI registry within 1 year of becoming registry eligible.
  • Licensure Requirements – 24 CEU credit hours every 3 years as required by ARMRIT
  • Total Joint & Spine Center initial and annual education: 1.5 hours

Responsibilities

  • Transport patients to and from department.
  • Assists others in accomplishing the patient’s imaging examination.
  • Assesses situations; exercises care, discretion, and judgment; assumes responsibility for professional decisions; and acts in the best interest of the patient.
  • Acts as an agent through observation and communication to obtain pertinent information for the physician to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient and recognizes that interpretation and diagnosis are outside the scope of practice for the profession.
  • Completes appropriate documentation for the patient’s imaging examination or transportation to and from the department.
  • Practices technology is founded upon theoretical knowledge and concepts, uses equipment and accessories consistent with the purposes for which they were designed, and employs procedures and techniques appropriately.
  • MRI safety procedures to include clearing MRI compatible devices prior to scans.
