The MRI Technologist performs all duties associated with acquisition, processing, submission for interpretation and archiving of MRI images. They are responsible for the quality of patient care, performance of daily activities, maintenance, and quality control performance. This role involves performing routine to complex magnetic resonance procedures, producing images for interpretation by a licensed independent practitioner. The technologist is expected to be trained and educated in MR safety issues, including RF-related thermal loading, burns, and neuromuscular excitation from gradients. They review physician orders, follow protocols, communicate equipment issues, and educate patients and families. Quality assurance, safety inspections, and reporting of hazardous conditions are also key responsibilities. The role requires an understanding of cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, radiopharmacology, and medical terminology. Ensuring physician orders and patient history are documented, reviewing patient safety for exams, and managing patient needs during procedures are critical. The technologist will prepare, position, and perform procedures using established MR protocols or as prescribed, administer medications, perform venipuncture, and evaluate image quality. They must identify and manage emergency situations, conduct POC Creatinine clearance testing, and know emergency shut-down procedures and quench reactions. Selecting appropriate pulse sequences, manipulating digital data, and maintaining archival storage are also part of the duties. The role includes assisting with inventory, following safety standards, directing assistants, performing preceptor duties, and maintaining the appearance and readiness of exam rooms and equipment. Flexibility in work schedules is expected to ensure patient care.
