About The Position

The MRI technologist will work with the radiologist and fellow staff members to prepare patients and operate magnetic resonance equipment in order to obtain diagnostic scans. The MRI technologist works under general supervision in performing a variety of exams and procedures according to departmental protocol, as requested by physician order. The technologist will position the patient’s body part for imaging and set appropriate technical factors on the imaging equipment with a high degree of competency to ensure production of quality images for interpretation by the radiologist.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Graduate of an accredited school for Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
  • 2 years of healthcare experience preferred.
  • ARRT or ARMRIT Registered in MRI, or eligible. Registry must be completed within 12 months of hire.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in verbal and written communications.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Proficient in MRI safety.
  • Constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping.
  • Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients and operate magnetic resonance equipment to obtain diagnostic scans.
  • Perform a variety of exams and procedures according to departmental protocol, as requested by physician order.
  • Position the patient’s body part for imaging.
  • Set appropriate technical factors on the imaging equipment to ensure production of quality images.
  • Ensure patient safety and comfort while in the radiology department.
  • Explain the procedure and post-procedure orders to the patient to gain cooperation and minimize anxiety.
  • Prioritize workflow in regard to patient condition and ensure patients’ arrival and departure occur in a timely manner.
  • Provide an atmosphere conducive to gain the patient's cooperation and confidence.
  • Utilize data received from patient satisfaction and practice performance results to identify opportunities to improve and participates in the planning and improvement process.
  • Work within a team to achieve patient and team goals.
  • Share and initiate regular and professional communication with co-workers.
  • Facilitate and participate in regular staff meetings.
  • Follow routine standards and properly and safely manipulate equipment, within its limitations, to obtain images.
  • Maintain sterile equipment and fields.
  • Adjust cameras to obtain the proper density and contrast.
  • Perform any necessary warm-up and quality control procedures on the equipment.
  • Use protocols to obtain images of internal structures.
  • Critique images for quality and make necessary judgments to determine if repeat is necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
