About The Position

Under the direct supervision of Radiological Technologists and/or nurses, and in cooperation with all the members of the patient care teams within Radiology, the Diagnostic Imaging Tech Aide performs a wide range of customer service-related duties, environmental, patient care, and supply functions to fully support patient care activities in the assigned patient care area of Radiology. They are responsible for supporting Technologists in patient care/diagnostic testing and assisting in general clerical office duties such as documenting patient medical history, patient registration, insurance documentation and scheduling.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in healthcare, hospital or radiology setting
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English / Excellent phone skills
  • Current BLS certification

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as a nursing assistant or EMT-B
  • One (1) year experience in hospital or nursing home setting in patient care
  • I.V. access training

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients as they arrive for procedures
  • Escorts patients throughout facility to ensure timeliness of scan
  • Confirms demographic and insurance information
  • Accurately documents medical history for the technologist and physician
  • Performs screening procedures on all patients before entering the scan room
  • Assists Technologists to position, transfer and properly immobilize patients as required, including screening for MRI for any metal objects/previous work with metal and surgeries that impact scan
  • Ability to load contrast power injector
  • Performs receptionist duties including patient registration, insurance documentation and scheduling/confirming appointments
  • Follows safety procedures and guidelines and reports unsafe practices and conditions
  • Consistently and appropriately follows Universal Precautions
  • Inventory (maintains and orders adequate supplies)
  • Assists in performing first aid, CPR and AED
  • Assists and serves as back-up to Schedulers
  • Stocks dressing rooms and procedures room with supplies
  • Participates in peer competencies
  • Understands the basic reporting system for position: Radiology Director, Radiology Assistant Manager, Charge Technologist
  • Schedules MRI, CT, etc. procedures for providers
  • Provides scheduling knowledge of Interventional radiology procedures and provide patient educational information to families
  • Knowledge of CPT coding for Imaging procedures
  • Provide knowledgeable coverage for the radiology clerical staff when needed
  • Understands the transfer and viewing of images through the P.A.C.S. system
  • Understands the ordering system through SJRMC EMR
  • Works with EMR system on updating new procedural codes annually
  • Understands usage of Direct Radiology reporting system
  • Maintains, cleans, and re-stocks each radiologic exam room when procedure is completed
  • Transportation of patients as needed
  • Adheres to organizations dress code
  • Maintains confidentiality of all Hospital matters (i.e.: patients HIPAA)
  • Practices good communication skills
  • Conducts self in a professional manner consistent with SJRMC’s core values
  • Assumes responsibility for own personal continuing education and developmental needs. Attends meetings, workshops, and conventions to increase clinical skills.
