About The Position

The MR Technologist Weekend Worker is responsible for performing MRI imaging procedures to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This role involves positioning, moving, and assisting patients to ensure accurate imaging results. The technologist also performs clerical duties and provides basic patient care within the scope of practice and departmental standards. Additionally, this position adheres to MRI safety guidelines, compliance plans, and regulations of local, state, and federal agencies. The role requires performing high-quality MRI examinations in accordance with physician orders and departmental protocols, reviewing patient history to confirm exam appropriateness and identify contraindications, and screening all individuals for MRI safety compliance. The technologist operates imaging equipment safely and properly, adapting protocols for patients of all ages. This position also ensures exam rooms are clean and stocked, and that equipment undergoes routine checks. Patient education regarding procedures, contrast use, and safety precautions is also a key responsibility. The technologist prepares and administers IV contrast material, monitors patients for adverse reactions, and performs daily system quality control checks. Accurate and timely documentation within the EMR and PACS systems is essential. The technologist must maintain all required registries and licenses and follow basic radiation safety concepts.

  • Ability to follow Basic Radiation Safety concepts of time, distance, and shielding to keep exposure levels ALARA for patients and staff [Required]
  • Ability to perform MRI procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail [Required]

Responsibilities

  • Perform MRI imaging procedures to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
  • Position, move, and assist patients to ensure accurate imaging results.
  • Perform clerical duties and provide basic patient care within the scope of practice and departmental standards.
  • Adhere to MRI safety guidelines, compliance plans, and regulations of local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Ensure exam rooms are clean, stocked, and ready for use, and that all equipment undergoes routine cleaning and safety checks.
  • Notify appropriate personnel when inventory is low.
  • Educate patients and family members about MRI procedures, contrast use, and safety precautions, promoting comfort and cooperation throughout the exam.
  • Position patients accurately and comfortably using appropriate immobilization and coil placement techniques to ensure high-quality imaging.
  • Prepare and administer IV contrast material following safety guidelines and monitor patients for adverse reactions.
  • Perform and document daily system quality control (QC) checks in compliance with departmental policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Follow department protocols for patient identification, informed consent, and time-out procedures prior to starting exams.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR) and PACS systems.
  • Perform high-quality MRI examinations in accordance with physician orders and departmental protocols to ensure diagnostic image quality and patient safety.
  • Review patient history and clinical information to confirm exam appropriateness and identify potential contraindications (e.g., implanted devices, metal, claustrophobia, contrast allergies).
  • Screen all patients, staff, and equipment for MRI safety compliance per facility policy and current safety standards, including completion of required screening documentation.
  • Operate all imaging equipment safely and properly, including scanners, injectors, and monitors, adapting protocols for patients of all ages.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain responsibility for all Hospital continuing and annual education.
  • Maintain all required registries and licenses to perform imaging procedures.
  • Follow Basic Radiation Safety concepts of time, distance, and shielding to keep exposure levels ALARA for patients and staff.
  • Perform MRI procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail.
