About The Position

The MPV Bus Driver is responsible for the safe transportation of authorized students and adult sponsors in a Multipurpose Vehicle (MPV) bus, adhering to all traffic laws and district policies. This role involves operating according to assigned schedules and routes, including daily school commutes, various school sites, and field trips. The driver must be accessible to supervisors for assignments, provide timely notification of delays, and assist passengers with loading and unloading procedures, ensuring their safety with seat belts and conducting thorough bus sweeps. Key duties also include documenting and reporting discipline issues, maintaining the bus's cleanliness and fuel levels, performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and reporting maintenance problems via the Samsara system. The driver is expected to maintain accurate transportation records, render assistance during breakdowns or accidents following established protocols, and attend all required training and meetings. Building good relationships with parents and school staff, maintaining a disciplined environment on the bus, and upholding Dallas ISD's Employee Standards of Conduct are also crucial aspects of the position. The role requires punctuality, reliability for regular and overtime work, good judgment, problem-solving skills, and effective teamwork.

Requirements

  • Maintain a minimum of a Class “C” drivers’ license issued by the State of Texas
  • Satisfactorily pass Dallas ISD driver certification for MPV driver
  • Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Meet the type 3 driving record that meets the District's standard for operations of motor vehicles

Responsibilities

  • Assumes charge of the Multipurpose Vehicle (MPV) bus and passengers while the bus in route and is responsible for the safety and conduct of those transported
  • Transports only authorized students and adult sponsors
  • Obeys all traffic laws and the district policy driver expectations
  • Operates according to assigned schedules and routes, transporting passengers to and from school, a variety of school sites, and on field trips as assigned
  • Accessible to dispatcher or supervisor for daily assignments, covers routes and/or other runs as the supervisor or dispatcher directs
  • Provides notification of delays in scheduled route
  • Assists and instructs passengers in proper loading and unloading procedures
  • Ensure students are seated using seat belts at all times
  • Ensure a proper sweep of the bus so no passengers are left unattended
  • Ensure that children take their belongings with them when leaving the bus
  • Documents and reports discipline problems to the transportation supervisor
  • Maintains a clean bus externally and internally
  • Maintains an appropriate level of fuel
  • Conducts pre-trip and post-trip inspection
  • Reports maintenance problems via the Samsara system
  • Makes neat, legible, and accurate transportation records as required
  • Renders assistance, if needed, when the bus breaks down or is involved in an accident
  • Reports all accidents in accordance with the established accident protocol
  • Attend all assigned training, safety meetings, and in-service meetings
  • Be adaptable and flexible in acceptance of changes in techniques and procedures
  • Maintains a good working relationship with the parents and school staff
  • Maintains a disciplined decorum of the bus conducive to the safety of passengers and protection of property
  • Follows the Dallas ISD Employee Standards of Conduct
  • Exhibits good judgment in decision-making and problem-solving
  • Works effectively with others
  • Follows the chain of command as noted in organizational policy
  • Presents a positive role model for patrons that supports the goals of Dallas ISD
  • Reports to work on time, is reliable for regular and overtime work, and is absent only with good cause
