About The Position

Weatherford U.S., L.P. is seeking an MPD Project Engineer II to provide design and field support for Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) operations. This role involves utilizing hydraulic simulations and procedural expertise to develop safe and efficient MPD well plans in collaboration with operators, MPD crews, third-party well systems, and regulatory entities. The position covers operations from office or location, utilizing the Weatherford MPD product suite, including Victus automated MPD, Pressure Pro MPD, Rotating Control Devices, Riser Gas Handling systems, and multiphase injection/returns for both land and offshore environments. Responsibilities include performing MPD engineering simulations for steady state and transient ECD/ESD profiles, assisting with surge and swab simulations, tripping schedules, influx tolerance simulations, MPD Matrix and IME, pill placement, fullovers, surface line/equipment frictional pressure loss calculations, and MGS flow capacity calculations. The role also involves writing MPD operating and contingencies procedures, drawing piping and instrumentation diagrams, and analyzing well parameters to propose improvements and identify inefficiencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Petroleum Engineering or related field of study and 5 years of progressive field experience in deepwater operations, including at least 3 years of Managed Pressure Drilling support.
  • OR Master’s degree or equivalent in Petroleum Engineering or related field of study and 3 years of field experience in deepwater operations, including at least 1 year of Managed Pressure Drilling support.
  • Single and multi-phase hydraulic simulator and steady state and transient models.
  • Mud logging and data analysis.
  • Manage Pressure Drilling well planning software.
  • Drilling Hydraulics Simulator Software.
  • Writing and executing MPD procedures for deepwater drilling operations.
  • Hands on experience with Influx tolerance simulations (transient), manage pressure drilling matrix and IME.
  • Constant Bottomhole Pressure (CBHP) well displacement simulation calculation.
  • Generating surge and swab simulations, and tripping schedules.
  • Performing hole cleaning analysis.
  • Managing Pressure Cementing (MPC) schedules.
  • Generating choke ramp tables.
  • Surface line and equipment frictional pressure loss calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Design and field support for Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) operations with solutions related to hydraulic simulations and procedural expertise.
  • Work closely with Operator’s related disciplines, MPD crew, third parties well systems, and regulatory entities to come up with safe and efficient plans to drill a MPD well.
  • Cover operations, from office (Weatherford or client) or location, included with the Weatherford MPD product suite (Victus automated MPD system, Pressure Pro MPD system, Rotating Control Devices, Riser Gas Handling system, Multiphase injection and multiphase returns/flow drilling managed pressure control, for both land and offshore operations).
  • Plan and support MPD operations by working on MPD engineering simulations for steady state and transient Equivalent Circulating Density/Equivalent Static Density (ECD/ESD) profiles in function of different MPD and drilling parameters (SBP, flow rate, mud specs, rpm, rop, etc.) and at well conditions (limitations, temperature/compressibility, rpm, and cuttings load effect, etc.).
  • Assist with surge and swab simulations and tripping schedules (drilling BHA and casing).
  • Work on influx tolerance simulations (transient), MPD Matrix and IME.
  • Work on the pill placement and fullovers.
  • Assist with surface line/equipment frictional pressure loss calculation, along with MGS flow capacity calculations.
  • Write MPD operating and contingencies procedures.
  • Draw piping and instrumentation diagrams and analyze well parameter to propose improvements as well as detect inefficiencies.
