About The Position

The Housing Specialist, Participant Moves is responsible for ensuring the families we serve on the Housing Choice Voucher program have a positive, compliant and informed experience related to all steps required for the move process.

Requirements

  • Must have completed NYS recognized Housing Specialist Certification or obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
  • High School Diploma or GED is required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, capable of working well with others.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong prioritization and critical thinking skills
  • Motivated self-starter able to work independently and remotely as needed
  • Flexibility and desire to work on varying projects

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 12 months of Housing Specialist experience.
  • Bi-lingual in English & Spanish
  • Proven excellence as an office assistant, office administrator, or in another relevant position
  • Computer proficiency in communication, collaboration, presentation, and office management technology (such as Zoom, and Microsoft Teams)
  • Experience working in diverse and/or underserved communities, and in culturally attuned, trauma-informed service provision.
  • Flexible work hours, including select evenings and weekends

Responsibilities

  • Assist participants that request to move with the move out, search and lease up process.
  • Serve as a point of contact for move inquiries for, colleagues, tenants and landlords. Families issued vouchers, oversee lease up process, including ensuring the proposed rent is reasonable and that request for tenancy forms are submitted for inspection.
  • Provide supplemental support for new admissions or recertifications based on current move caseload. Collect and review family documentation, including income information, and monitor tenant and property owner compliance with program requirements.
  • Input tenant data into the database monthly to produce timely and accurate rent calculations. Maintain participant files for assigned move caseload.
  • Adjust data due to changes in income or other information.
  • Ensure data entered is complete and error-free, following all applicable program rules and regulations.
  • Ensure proper rent subsidy calculations.
  • Answer periodic questions from tenants and property owners by telephone, fax, email and mail.
  • Process tenant unit transfers.
  • Conduct tenant conferences.
  • Recommend files for termination or voucher expiration as needed.
