About The Position

Pratt Miller, an Oshkosh company, is a product development company serving motorsports, defense, and mobility industries. It provides product engineering and low-volume production solutions, including research and development, engineering, prototype manufacturing, test and validation, and low-rate production. Pratt Miller is seeking a Performance Engineer for its Competition Engineering Department to contribute to an IMSA WeatherTech Championship program. This is an in-person position based in Michigan and requires travel in support of race and test events. The engineer will contribute to event preparation and execution, vehicle and process development, simulation support, program reporting, and collaboration with internal and external teams. The role includes supporting trackside and remote resources, developing performance and race-strategy tools and processes, and maintaining documentation. Stress may occur periodically, long hours may be required at times, and travel varies with support needs, typically totaling 40 to 80 days per year. Work may involve both group and individual assignments.

  • Ability to review experimental and simulation results to support decision-making.
  • Familiarity with vehicle simulation and modeling.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to function in a high-pressure environment under stressed time constraints.
  • Willingness to travel in support of race and test events; total travel commitments can range from 40 to 80 days a year.
  • Long hours may be required at times.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in general data review and processing using tools such as MATLAB, Excel, or Python.

Responsibilities

  • Propose and collaborate on event-related hardware, process, and vehicle-preparation objectives.
  • Use data analysis, vehicle simulation, historical information, and other appropriate tools to identify event-specific performance improvements.
  • Develop, manage, and execute project work, preparation, and documentation related to vehicle performance and race strategy.
  • Track and communicate updates and status, and organize or participate in review meetings.
  • Carry out event-specific tasks under direction from senior race engineers and provide supporting feedback.
  • Process and distribute vehicle data and conduct distribution analysis.
  • Manage, operate, and analyze supporting software toolchains for performance and race-strategy execution.
  • Manage communications and provide feedback to trackside and remote support resources.
  • Identify and contribute to vehicle development initiatives involving vehicle setup and performance, hardware integration, and subsystem development.
  • Support offsite testing in person and develop tools and processes for vehicle and process development.
  • Support baseline vehicle-model correlation and event-specific performance analysis and sensitivity generation.
  • Maintain and develop reporting documentation and processes for event and engineering projects.
  • Collaborate with other Pratt Miller groups and external parties, including through meetings and project-related travel.
  • Support Pratt Miller initiatives, marketing events, and general development as needed.
  • Provide feedback on product needs and processes.
