About The Position

The Motorhand is responsible for the safe operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of rig engines, power systems, and associated mechanical equipment. Working closely with the Driller, Derrickhand, and Floorhands, the Motorhand ensures all rig equipment is maintained in a safe and operational condition to support efficient drilling operations. The Motorhand assists with rig floor activities as required and plays a key role in preventative maintenance programs, equipment inspections, troubleshooting, and housekeeping. This position serves as a developmental role for employees seeking advancement within drilling operations.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Floorhand is required.
  • Experience working in a safety-sensitive oil and gas drilling environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of diesel engines, compressors, generators, pumps, and rig equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and operational issues.
  • Understanding of preventative maintenance practices.
  • Knowledge of safe work procedures and equipment operation.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.

  • Completion of Stampede's HR/HSE Orientation and Induction Program.
  • Completion of all training requirements outlined in the Regional Training Matrix.
  • Completion of client-specific orientation and training requirements as required for site access.
  • Ability to work rotating shift schedules in a 24-hour drilling operation working 12 or 8 hr shifts depending on location of the rig.
  • Ability to work extended hours, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work in remote locations and camp environments.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying and extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work requiring strength, endurance, coordination, and agility.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy equipment and materials within safe work practices.
  • Must be medically fit to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Must successfully meet company fitness-for-work and drug and alcohol testing requirements.
  • Understand and comply with Stampede's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics in all business activities and interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Safely inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair rig engines, generators, pumps, compressors, hydraulic systems, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and company maintenance schedules.
  • Monitor the performance of all power and mechanical systems, identifying and reporting deficiencies or abnormal operating conditions.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment inspections, and repair documentation.
  • Ensure fuel, lubricants, coolants, and other fluids are maintained at proper operating levels and stored safely.
  • Assist with rig-up, rig-down, equipment moves, and mechanical preparations for drilling operations.
  • Support floor operations and assist other crew members whenever mechanical duties permit, contributing to the safe and efficient operation of the rig.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free environment around the rig and in all buildings.
  • Participate in pre-job safety meetings, hazard assessments, toolbox talks, and emergency response drills.
  • Identify hazards, report near misses, and stop work whenever unsafe conditions or acts are observed.
  • Comply with all company policies, safe work procedures, regulatory requirements, and environmental standards.
  • Communicate effectively with the Driller, Rig Manager, and crew regarding equipment status, repairs, and operational concerns.
  • Assist with training and mentoring less experienced crew members on proper equipment operation and preventative maintenance practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success and efficiency of the drilling operation.
