Requirements

  • Knowledge of mechanical principles, methods, procedures, and tool use.
  • Knowledge of hand, pneumatic, and electric tools used in motorcycle repair.
  • Ability to diagnose and plan the repair of a wide variety of motorcycle mechanical problems.
  • Ability to read and understand motorcycle mechanical repair manuals used in the repair of motorcycle machinery.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to lead and train other mechanics.
  • Ability to complete apprenticeship training for the maintenance and repair of equipment.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong and effective relationships.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in mechanical motorcycle repair.
  • Valid Class C and/or M driver's licenses with good driving record.
  • Availability to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must supply own set of mechanic's hand tools.

Nice To Haves

  • An associate degree or certificate in motorcycle technology plus one (1) year of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventive and periodic maintenance, inspections and repairs to the fuel, ignition, electrical, braking, and other systems in motorcycle equipment to ensure safe and operational condition; monitors recycling and environmental standards.
  • Repairs and maintains hydraulic equipment using hand and special tools to provide functional equipment at all times; pulls and cleans parts from damaged motorcycles to be used in repairing other damaged motorcycles; replaces tires, suspension, and other parts and equipment.
  • Performs state mandated inspections to ensure appropriate work is completed; researches parts and equipment to determine the necessary course of action for repair and maintenance work.
  • Completes job tickets, work orders and keeps records of work performed, amount of time required, repairs, parts, and preventive maintenance completed and other paperwork to document work and conditions of equipment.
  • Communicates with a variety of employees, divisions, other city departments, and vendors to coordinate the repair of equipment and obtain materials.
  • Trains and educates other Motorcycle Mechanics on procedures and methods for repairs; ensures all work is done accurately and effectively with strong attention to detail.
  • Performs any and all other work as assigned.
  • Available to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
