The Department of Motor Vehicles (Highway Patrol) is the lead agency for Vermont's Size and Weight Plan and the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program. We are seeking a full-time a Motor Vehicle Inspector, a law enforcement role focused on enforcing state size and weight statutes, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and highway safety operations. This position involves significant coordination with other state and federal agencies, law enforcement partners, industry groups, and internal DMV teams, including the Permit Unit and Commercial Vehicle Operations. We're looking for a motivated individual with strong time management skills and the ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field. The role is primarily outdoors and operates in all weather conditions. Assignments are usually scheduled two weeks in advance and may include motor vehicle patrols, fixed-site truck inspections, and other highway safety and infrastructure protection efforts based on agency needs. This position includes a take-home enforcement vehicle and a storage allowance per the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Travel for training and mission-related assignments is required. Final candidates must successfully complete a criminal and motor vehicle record check, a full background investigation, and may be required to pass a polygraph examination.
