About The Position

Merakey is seeking a Motor Development Specialist to join their team in Warminster, PA. This role involves implementing programs recommended by Occupational Therapists (OT) and/or Physical Therapists (PT) to help individuals develop basic functional skills. The position requires maintaining communication within an interdisciplinary team, with training and consultation provided by OTs and PTs, and work performance directed by the Program Manager. This is an immediate hiring opportunity for individuals with a background in caregiving roles.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with Individuals with IDD
  • Ability to lift up to 100lbs occasionally, and/or 50lbs frequently, and/or over 20lbs continuously

Responsibilities

  • Learns use of equipment/techniques and implementation of programs designed by OT/PT to facilitate development and trains other staff as appropriate.
  • Provides orientation and continuing training for staff concerning OT/PT Department policies and procedures.
  • Fabricates, orders/issues, and maintains adapted equipment for individual feeding programs, under the direction of the OT.
  • Responsible to maintain and/or have repaired all equipment, adaptations or adjustments of devices used by individuals.
  • Trains, implements, and assists staff with individual feeding programs, including monitoring of mealtimes, under the direction of the OT.
  • Assists PT/OT in the Sensory Program through development, training, and implementation of sensory based activities, including maintenance, care, and instruction of sensory equipment.
  • Assists PT/OT with the individuals’ splints, schedules, care of splints and in-servicing of staff on the correct use of splints.
  • Creates and maintains appropriate documentation (including assessments, and appropriate tools to assess and goal/outcome planning) with accuracy and completeness, as directed by OT/PT.
  • Completes periodic documentation of individuals’ progress in the program and attend the interdisciplinary staffings of the individuals involved in the OTPT program.
  • Ensure that the safety of the individuals is always maintained.
  • Assists in planning and organize in community and special events.
  • Performs related work as required.
