About The Position

The Mother’s Milk Bank of Iowa Director plans, directs and manages the administrative and operational activities for the Mother’s Milk Bank Service that provides pasteurized donor human milk to hospitals and to infants at home and across the nation. Reports directly to the Associate Director in any activities of the University or Hospital as assigned but not limited to this description.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of leadership and management experience
  • Proficient in computer software applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Iowa driver’s license, travel.
  • Meticulous to detail.
  • Strong work ethic, motivated and focused.

  • Knowledge and experience with accounting practices and procedures
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Experience with EPIC preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, develop, direct, modify, participate, expand and lead the growth and development of the Mother’s Milk Bank of Iowa (MMBI) Service and collect, gather, analyze, prepare, present, distribute and maintain data.
  • Establish, review and revise policies and procedures for the operation of the milk bank and adhere to and comply with the Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA) Standards.
  • Maintain accreditation, FDA registration, serve on milk bank food safety committee, hold annual meetings with the milk bank panel of consultants and report actions, performance and progress.
  • Develop and coordinate outreach opportunities that include establishing and maintaining milk collection depots, pasteurized donor human milk dispensaries and phlebotomy partners.
  • Serve as a milk banking resource by presenting at educational and scientific meetings/symposiums, serving on HMBANA committees, being a preceptor to Master of Clinical Nutrition and nursing students and pediatric residents, etc.
  • Hire, develop, and manage the performance of milk bank staff.
  • Prepare and/or assist in budget development and monitor accounts, income, expenditures and report/resolve discrepancies. Provide projections and recommendations. Manage and report financial and productivity data.
  • Develop and monitor plans to enhance patient and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide progress reports to the department director or director of clinical functions.
  • Advocate for needs of the milk bank.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
