About The Position

The MOT Superintendent is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing all Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) and traffic control operations on heavy civil construction projects. This role ensures the safe and efficient movement of the public, project personnel, and equipment through and around active construction zones while maintaining compliance with state DOT requirements, project specifications, and company safety standards. The MOT Superintendent works closely with project management, field operations, subcontractors, and public agencies to minimize disruptions and maintain safe work zones.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of heavy civil construction experience.
  • 2+ years of experience managing MOT or traffic control operations on roadway, bridge, transportation, or infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience supervising field crews and subcontractors.
  • Thorough understanding of MUTCD requirements and traffic control best practices.
  • Knowledge of roadway, bridge, highway, and infrastructure construction methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, traffic control plans, and specifications.
  • Proficiency with scheduling and field reporting tools.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to make decisions in fast-paced field environments.
  • Strong organizational and planning abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain project-specific Traffic Control Plans (TCPs) and MOT phasing plans.
  • Coordinate lane closures, detours, temporary roadway alignments, and traffic shifts.
  • Ensure all traffic control devices are installed and maintained according to project requirements and applicable DOT standards.
  • Review plans and specifications to identify traffic control requirements and potential risks.
  • Supervise MOT crews, subcontractors, and traffic control personnel.
  • Schedule daily and weekly traffic control activities to support construction operations.
  • Coordinate work activities to minimize impacts on motorists, pedestrians, businesses, and adjacent stakeholders.
  • Conduct regular inspections of work zones to verify compliance and effectiveness.
  • Serve as the primary field contact for traffic control operations.
  • Coordinate with project owners, DOT representatives, law enforcement agencies, utility companies, and emergency services.
  • Communicate upcoming closures, traffic shifts, and schedule changes to stakeholders.
  • Participate in client and project progress meetings.
  • Maintain traffic control inspection records and documentation.
  • Verify proper installation, maintenance, and removal of signs, barriers, attenuators, pavement markings, and temporary signals.
  • Track labor, equipment, and material usage associated with MOT operations.
  • Prepare daily reports and support project documentation requirements.
