About The Position

ACME Barricades is seeking a motivated MOT Equipment Mechanic to join their successful team. The Equipment Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance of Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) equipment, including Message Boards, Arrow Boards, Speed Radar Boards, Portable Regulatory Boards, and utility trailers. The role requires proficiency in 12 Volt diagnostics with CPU, PCB, Solar Regulatory Chargers, & Character Panel wiring, as well as an understanding of Series and Parallel electrical circuits in relation to battery configurations. Welding/fabrication ability and a basic understanding of hydraulic motor and cylinder functions are also necessary. Training for specific company equipment will be provided.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Must pass MVR and controlled substance test.
  • May require background and criminal record check.
  • Knowledge of local driving rules and regulations.
  • Repeated physical effort including driving for several hours per day or several hours at a time.
  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time (more than several hours).
  • Loading and unloading equipment into and out of company vehicles.
  • Walking on varying ground surfaces.
  • Frequently lifting a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Working from elevated platforms, ladders or truck beds.
  • Operating hand/power tools.
  • Manual dexterity to operate keyboards and smart phones.
  • Physical agility to use arms, legs and hands repetitively.
  • Working outdoors.
  • Working safely under adverse environmental and weather conditions which include high speed traffic areas, heavy construction equipment, fuel fumes and construction substances.
  • Comfortable around vehicles moving through work zones and maintaining constant awareness of surroundings on construction site including placement of machinery and equipment, other employees and construction activities.
  • Vision adequate to see moving vehicles, read highway construction MOT signs, read instructions, manuals, reports, and construction plans.
  • Hearing adequate to hear approaching vehicles, audible commands at a distance from supervisors, conversations in person, and over the telephone.
  • Communicating clearly - both written and verbally.
  • Ability to complete daily paperwork as required by supervisor.
  • Working a flexible schedule which can include day or night shifts, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Adjusting to a changing work schedule.
  • Working overtime.
  • Working individually and as a team with other employees.
  • Must maintain company standards post-employment for background checks, criminal record, driving record and controlled substance/drug testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Trailer mechanical repair experience a plus.
  • Electrical and welding experience a plus.
  • 2-4 years of preventative maintenance of trailers a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) equipment including Message Boards, Arrow Boards, Speed Radar Boards, Portable Regulatory Boards, and utility trailers.
  • Performing 12 Volt diagnostics with CPU, PCB, Solar Regulatory Chargers, & Character Panel wiring.
  • Understanding Series and Parallel electrical circuits in relation to battery configurations.
  • Performing welding/fabrication.
  • Understanding basic hydraulic motor and cylinder functions.
  • Conducting inspections and diagnostic tests to determine equipment condition and identify worn or damaged parts.
  • Keeping equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing component and part upgrades, and performing general maintenance of trailers.
  • Correcting equipment deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components.
  • Verifying equipment performance by conducting tests and adjusting controls and systems.
  • Maintaining equipment appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.
  • Maintaining equipment records by annotating services and repairs.
  • Keeping shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
  • Evaluating service and parts options.
  • Keeping supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned.
