About The Position

Parsons is looking for a talented MOT Engineer 2 to join their team full-time to support large transformative transportation projects across the nation. These projects involve designing for construction values greater than $1 billion, aiming to enhance mobility, safety, and reliability for communities. The position is hybrid, requiring the selected candidate to be centrally located to a Parsons office for regular in-office collaboration. Parsons is a leading design-build firm with a global presence, known for its work on challenging infrastructure projects. This role offers career-defining opportunities on high-visibility Design-Build and Public Private Partnership (P3) projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • 5 to 8 years of experience in transportation engineering with a focus on Maintenance of Traffic or temporary traffic control design
  • Demonstrated experience preparing MOT plans and staging concepts for roadway/bridge projects
  • Proficiency with CADD software (MicroStation, OpenRoads, or similar) for plan development
  • Working knowledge of MUTCD and state DOT MOT standards and procedures
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain within 12–18 months
  • Experience on design-build or P3 transportation projects
  • Familiarity with traffic simulation/analysis tools for evaluating work zone operations
  • Experience coordinating with contractors and owners on MOT strategies and constructability
  • Prior experience providing technical guidance to junior staff

Responsibilities

  • Develop Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans and temporary traffic control layouts for complex roadway and bridge projects with moderate guidance
  • Prepare detailed construction staging, sequencing, and detour plans, coordinating with roadway, structures, and drainage teams
  • Perform work zone capacity, queuing, and operational assessments to support staging and detour decisions
  • Ensure MOT designs comply with MUTCD, state DOT, and project-specific requirements
  • Support design-build pursuits and projects by developing innovative staging concepts and contractor-friendly MOT solutions
  • Review and coordinate contractor or subconsultant MOT submittals and incorporate feedback into design documents
  • Mentor and provide task-level guidance to junior MOT engineers and designers
  • Contribute to technical reports, design criteria, and quality control documentation for MOT deliverables
