About The Position

Marion County Public Health Department is seeking a Seasonal Mosquito Control Technician for the summer. This role involves checking known or potential mosquito breeding sites for larvae, pupae, rafts, or adults, and applying insecticides or other control measures to reduce disease-bearing and nuisance mosquito populations in Marion County. Requirements

  • Must have a good driving record.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • The ability to interact with the public in a professional manner is required.
  • The ability to navigate around Marion County is required.
  • Technicians must work responsibly with mosquito control chemicals.
  • Technicians must operate the mosquito control tools and machines in a responsible way.

Responsibilities

  • Performs area surveys for potential mosquito breeding sites.
  • Collects mosquito larvae/adult specimens and sorts adult mosquito collections for identification and virus testing.
  • Assists in rearing larvae and adult specimens to test product effectiveness and mosquito resistance.
  • Checks and reads rain gauges and monitoring devices, recording information on daily reports and into data collecting software via handheld device.
  • Conducts application of larvicides, adulticides, or other mosquito control measures in accordance with assigned zones/routes or as required by mosquito population or disease transmission data.
  • Performs routine maintenance on vehicles and application equipment, completing documentation and notifying supervisor of any problems.
  • Organizes daily itinerary of activities for the shift.
  • Maintains radio communication with Mosquito Control Base as required by the Indiana State Chemists Office.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation of site visits and treatments (Jensen Codes).
  • Transports/carries application equipment and chemicals to remote or inaccessible sites.
  • May answer phones and record information from the public (Requests for Service).
  • May perform grounds keeping activities and equipment cleanup chores.
