About The Position

Guidance Residential, LLC is a strong, growing company that specializes in residential mortgage lending. Our team members are a vital strength in our ability to grow and continue to serve our customers. We currently have an opening for a full-time Underwriter, who will perform the full range of underwriting duties, including evaluating mortgage applications to determine if buyer, property, and conditions meet applicable investor guidelines. As a member of the underwriting team, the ideal candidate will collaborate with other members to provide a customer experience that is consistent with the goals of GR, as well as, meet the needs of the internal and external customers.

Requirements

  • Minimum five years of underwriting experience with conventional first mortgage loans
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac underwriting requirements and investor guidelines
  • Demonstrated ability to independently analyze complex transactions, research guideline questions, exercise sound underwriting judgment, and escalate only when a true guideline conflict, policy question, or business risk exists
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies, inconsistencies, documentation conflicts, and potential risk issues
  • Ability to consistently meet established quality, compliance, and production expectations while managing workload independently
  • Demonstrated accountability, professional integrity, and commitment to continuous learning and development

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree preferred

  • Must be able to prioritize multiple projects to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Must also be able to demonstrate initiative and use independent judgment within Guidance's established guidelines and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and evaluates co-ownership applications to determine compliance with applicable investor and Company guidelines.
  • Analyzes income, assets, credit, collateral, occupancy, and overall transaction risk to make sound underwriting decisions.
  • Conditionally approves, suspends, or recommends denial of applications based on documented findings and applicable guidelines.
  • Identifies discrepancies, potential risks, and additional documentation needed to support an underwriting decision.
  • Clearly documents underwriting decisions and communicates conditions that are concise, actionable, and supported by applicable guidelines.
  • Maintains current knowledge of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, investor, and Company guidelines and independently researches underwriting questions as needed.
  • Manages assigned workload to meet established quality, productivity, and service expectations while maintaining accuracy and compliance.
  • Communicates professionally with processors, sales staff, management, and other business partners and takes ownership of assigned files through final disposition.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.
