The Underwriter is responsible for underwriting residential mortgage loans to ensure compliance with bank, investor, and secondary market standards. This role involves communication with processors, originators, and other internal and external customers, meeting performance standards and goals established by the bank, and approving acceptable loans within maximum conforming and/or non-conforming lending limits. The position requires performing detailed underwriting analysis of all Truist Financial mortgage loan products, including calculating income, complex financial analysis, analyzing title reports and lien information, reviewing financial statements, and reviewing all additional documentation prior to approval. Ensuring all loan files are documented to meet portfolio and investor guidelines to maintain quality standards is crucial. The role also involves developing and maintaining a strong understanding of Mortgage Lending products, policies, processes, and required documentation, with demonstrated expertise in two or more of the following categories preferred: GSE, Government, Portfolio, or expertise in government lending. Loans must be adequately conditioned to meet Mortgage Lending products, policies, processes, and their required documentation. Adherence to all compliance regulations and controls, and proactive and effective pipeline management to ensure metrics are met are also key responsibilities. Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with co-workers, internal and external clients, business partners, and vendors is expected. Lending authority will be granted based on experience and mastery of the certification program and/or demonstrated proficiency in underwriting mortgage loans.
