Requirements

  • Minimum three (3) years prior experience.
  • Must be registered with the NMLS and adhere to the requirements of the SAFE Act.
  • Ability to work independently and prospect new business within the market area.
  • Travel is essential.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Computer skills (Encompass, Word, Excel).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and exercise discretion and judgment in making decisions which affect the Bank and or its subsidiaries.
  • Ability to interpret government regulations and mortgage loan documents.
  • Ability to promote the Bank's financial products and services and advise as to the appropriate financial product(s) to correspond to their financial needs.
  • Time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Originate residential mortgage loans for purchase and refinancing of one-to-four family dwellings, including home improvement and home equity loans.
  • Advise loan customers on the risks and benefits of various loan programs based on their financial information and place them in the most suitable program.
  • Solicit loan applications from prospective borrowers, real estate brokers and agents, builders, developers, attorneys, title insurance agencies, and other referral sources.
  • Regularly visit real estate brokers, agents, builders, developers, attorneys, and title insurance agencies to explain new mortgage products and maintain business relations.
  • Represent Ulster Savings Bank and its subsidiaries in the field, keeping the Bank informed of market changes and developments.
  • Develop new relationships with real estate brokers, attorneys, and financial planners to originate mortgage brokers.
  • Keep real estate brokers informed about the status of mortgage applicants, production numbers, and timely commitment or rejection of their files.
  • Deliver quality applications to processing and underwriting.
  • Complete all necessary information to serve the customer efficiently, using discretion and independent judgment to place customers in the correct lending program.
  • Obtain all pertinent data concerning each loan application transaction.
  • Market the Bank's subsidiaries' products, such as casualty and property insurance and title insurance, to loan applicants and assist in their delivery.
  • Maintain and submit complete records of all loan solicitations.
  • Accurately and timely complete rate locks and registrations in compliance with deadlines.
  • Follow and familiarize yourself with all policies and procedures outlined in the lending manual and by lending policies.
  • Attend all requested on-the-job or off-site training courses.
  • Abide and comply with all applicable federal and state lending laws and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Ulster Savings Bank.
  • Regularly visit and build relationships with local nonprofits (e.g., RUPCO, PathStone, Hudson River Housing, Habitat for Humanity, Neighborworks, Patterns for Progress).
  • Regularly visit and build relationships with local community groups (e.g., churches, community centers).
