About The Position

Vermont Federal Credit Union is seeking a friendly, self-motivated Mortgage Originator for its Rutland Branch. This role is crucial in helping Vermonters achieve their homeownership goals by generating applications for home purchase and refinance loans. The Mortgage Originator will ensure an exceptional member experience throughout the entire real estate loan process, from origination to closing, maintaining clear communication with members, agents, and partners. The position involves active participation in community events and seminars to educate members on mortgage financing and homeownership, as well as building and maintaining industry relationships to drive external loan production. A thorough understanding of lending programs, compliance, policies, and procedures, including VA, VHFA, and Conventional Loan Programs, is essential. Close collaboration with loan processors, underwriters, and closers is expected to meet goals for approval times and member satisfaction.

Requirements

  • At least two years’ experience in mortgage banking or real estate business.
  • Ability to learn and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong planning, time management and organizational skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical ability with active listening skills.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends or attend networking events.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • PC proficient including Word, Outlook, and excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the secondary market, VHFA and VA mortgage programs a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Generate applications for the purchase and refinance of home loans that meet or exceed Vermont Federal production goals.
  • Ensure an exceptional member experience by overseeing the real estate loan process from origination through closing while providing on-going communication and status updates to members, agents and other partners.
  • Participate in community efforts and seminars to promote / educate members on mortgage financing and homeownership.
  • Build and maintain industry relationships that lead to external loan production.
  • Maintain current and thorough knowledge of lending programs, compliance, policies and procedures including VA, VHFA, and Conventional Loan Programs.
  • Interact closely with loan processors, underwriters, and closer to achieve goals in approval times and member satisfaction.
