About The Position

Northeast Home Loan is looking for a bright, energetic individual with loan processing experience to join their team as a Mortgage Loan Underwriter. The right individual will be responsible for processing and underwriting loans, and ensuring loan documentation is complete and accurate. They should have a thorough understanding of underwriting and investor requirements and the ability to interpret these guidelines and produce a complete file.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of Mortgage Underwriting Experience
  • Government underwriting experience
  • State housing experience
  • VA SAR approval or qualify to complete SAR training
  • Balance of Processor II and Junior Underwriter qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Receives and reviews loan applications from loan agent to ensure all necessary forms are accurate and complete. Accurately identifies additional documentation or information necessary to complete package within 48 hours of receipt
  • Acts as a regular, direct contact with the Loan Originator, Underwriters, team members, MI companies, and appraisers to include responding to inquiries, requesting and obtaining information, providing updates and resolution of issues as related to the processing of the application
  • Underwrites the file in accordance with investor guidelines for conventional, portfolio, state housing agencies, jumbo, and government loan programs.
  • Reviews appraisals for accuracy and verify collateral is acceptable for investor. Performs second review of appraisals with rating of 4-5 on SSR report for junior underwriters. Orders desk reviews as applicable.
  • Verifies all state, federal, state housing, and government disclosures are completed and signed.
  • Completes and reviews fraud reports on loan files as applicable.
  • Clears conditions for loans and issues approval to close
  • Orders verifications as required, Reviews documents received for compliance with investor requirements and follows up with originator as appropriate.
  • Prepares completed package for submission to mortgage insurance companies, state housing agencies, Rural Development, and other investors as necessary
  • Prepares files for closing
  • Assists with the training of new Mortgage loan processors and cross training of existing staff
  • Assists Shipping with suspended files for underwriting deficiencies.
  • Responds to Manager regarding monthly QC Audit findings and investor audit findings
  • Actively supports the service quality initiative established by the Company to provide flexible, caring, knowledgeable, responsive, accurate and timely service
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
