About The Position

The Mortgage Originator is responsible for originating and processing mortgage loans and supporting all aspects of mortgage department production. The employee will support the bank's strategic goals, vision, mission, core values, service standards and service philosophy in actions, words and deeds.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Basic knowledge of the bank's products and services
  • Willingness to serve
  • Ability to function efficiently in a network environment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and SharePoint
  • Ability to function efficiently on a general business level of math
  • General accounting knowledge (i.e. debits, credits, and an understanding of the bank's account reconciliations)
  • Ability to collect, research, and analyze information skillfully
  • Self-starter, creative thinker, flexible, eager, nurturing, open to change and exhibit good judgment
  • Leader by example, attentive to detail, work well with others and responsive to supervisory guidance
  • Ability to identify and interpret trends in financial data
  • Working knowledge of compliance guidelines for the bank and the industry
  • Knowledge of loan documentation necessary for mortgage lending
  • Knowledge of the following lending regulations: Regulation B: Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Regulation C: Home Mortgage Disclosure, Regulation Z: Truth in Lending, HMDA, RESPA: Real Estate Settlement Procedures, Bank Secrecy
  • Know how to read financial statements (balance sheet, profit & loss statement, and cash flow statement)
  • Understand the appropriate loan documentation as related to all mortgage loans: FHA
  • Knowledge and experience with Caylex Software

  • College degree preferred
  • Mortgage originator experience or related sales experience
  • Broad, general knowledge of insurance products
  • Understand loan and commitment letters

Responsibilities

  • Originating and processing mortgage loans
  • Supporting all aspects of mortgage department production
  • Prospecting for new clients
  • Obtaining appointments by telephone and in person
  • Conducting interviews with prospects and clients
  • Analyzing information to narrow the product selection process
  • Choosing the product(s) to recommend
  • Closing (facilitating action steps to complete buying transactions)
  • Post-sale follow up
  • Asking for referrals
  • Tracking new business through completion and payment to the bank
  • Initiating communications with vendors on behalf of clients
  • Document and maintain records of all transactions and communications with clients
  • Keeping records of sales results
