About The Position

The Mortgage Loan Officer is responsible for generating residential mortgage loan production through strategic prospecting, relationship cultivation, and consultative sales practices. This role guides clients through the mortgage application process, evaluating their financial profiles, and recommending appropriate loan products, while ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and Bank policies. The Mortgage Loan Officer orders appraisals, credit reports, and reference checks; packages loans; outlines loan terms and conditions; and informs prospective borrower of loan commitment. This position conducts closings with buyers, sellers, real estate agents, attorneys, and others. Most of the compensation for this role is based on volume.

Requirements

  • Minimum of associate ’s degree in business, finance, or related field required; bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in mortgage lending required.
  • Registration with Nationwide Multistate Licensing System (NMLS) required.
  • Strong knowledge of mortgage products and regulatory requirements.
  • Complete understanding of mortgage programs and agency requirements.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in mortgage origination systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Comfort with working in a dynamic environment where priorities can shift quickly.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues across various departments maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Efficiently perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Consistently attend work, meetings, and required training or staff events.

Responsibilities

  • Guide applicants through the loan application process, ensuring all required documentation is obtained and meets regulatory requirements and bank policies.
  • Collect and analyze financial and credit information to assess loan eligibility and recommend appropriate mortgage products.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with a diverse network of clients, realtors, builders, financial advisors, and other referral sources to drive consistent mortgage application volume and long-term business growth.
  • Actively prospect new clients through networking events, community involvement, and marketing initiatives.
  • Provide exceptional service throughout the loan process that reflects the Bank’s values, ensuring client satisfaction, referrals, and repeat business.
  • Collaborate with underwriting, processing, and closing teams to ensure timely and accurate loan fulfillment.
  • Meet or exceed established monthly and annual loan origination goals by proactively managing a robust pipeline of prospective borrowers and referral sources.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of all sales activities, client interactions, and loan pipeline status using the Bank’s customer relationship management (CRM) and loan origination systems.
  • Prepare and present performance reports to management, highlighting progress toward goals, conversion rates, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Counsel mortgage loan delinquent customers.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiencies and risk mitigation.
  • Comply with employment, government, regulatory, and Bank policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties assigned, in support of departmental goals and organizational priorities.
