About The Position

The Mortgage Loan Officer is responsible for originating residential mortgage, home equity, and home equity line of credit products in accordance with Bank lending policies and underwriting standards. This role involves prospecting, developing, and managing a pipeline of borrowers, with a focus on LMI borrowers and those in targeted geographies. The officer will promote and utilize the Bank’s specially designed mortgage and home equity products, including affordable housing programs, and maintain knowledge of PHFA and other relevant assistance programs. Building and maintaining relationships with referral sources such as real estate agents, brokers, and builders is crucial, as is establishing connections with community organizations, housing counselors, and leaders serving the Bank’s CRA markets. The role requires active participation in community events, homebuyer education, and financial literacy initiatives. Collaboration with internal teams like processors, underwriters, and closing personnel is essential for timely loan decisions and closings. Accurate data entry in loan origination (Encompass) and CRM (Salesforce) systems is required. The position supports the Bank’s CRA objectives by generating measurable activity and providing feedback on community credit needs and market opportunities. The role also requires compliance with all applicable regulations and Bank policies, including CRA, Fair Lending, ECOA, Fair Housing Act, HMDA, RESPA, and Truth in Lending.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of two years’ previous experience in a sales-oriented environment, with proven track record of success, required
  • Must be compliant with the SAFE Act and registered with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS).
  • Strong working knowledge of underwriting guidelines for each agency, as well as bank overlays for portfolio business.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time extraordinarily well.
  • Excellent presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to interact well with Team members and customers
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Responsibilities

  • Originate residential mortgage, home equity and home equity line of credit products in accordance with Bank lending policies and established underwriting standards.
  • Prospect, develop and manage a pipeline of prospective borrowers from initial inquiry through application, approval, closing and post-closing follow-up.
  • Proactively generate mortgage and home equity applications from LMI borrowers and borrowers located in targeted geographies within the Bank’s market area.
  • Promote and appropriately utilize the Bank’s specially designed mortgage and home equity products, including programs intended to address identified community credit needs.
  • Maintain working knowledge of PHFA and other applicable affordable-housing, first-time-homebuyer and down-payment assistance programs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with real estate agents, brokers, builders and other mortgage referral sources to generate sustainable application flow.
  • Establish relationships with community organizations, housing counselors, nonprofit organizations, employers and community leaders serving the Bank’s CRA markets.
  • Conduct regular meetings, presentations, educational sessions and outreach activities with real estate and community partners.
  • Participate in appropriate community events, homebuyer education programs, housing fairs and financial-literacy initiatives to increase awareness of the Bank’s lending products.
  • Work collaboratively with processors, underwriters, closing personnel and other Bank departments to facilitate timely and quality loan decisions and closings.
  • Maintain accurate and timely customer, referral, pipeline and loan activity information in the Bank’s loan origination (Encompass) and customer relationship management (Salesforce) systems.
  • Support the Bank’s CRA objectives by generating measurable activity across applicable lending and community-outreach performance measures, including applications, originations, closings and targeted-geography activity.
  • Provide management with information regarding community credit needs, market opportunities, referral activity and opportunities to increase the Bank’s lending presence in underserved or targeted markets.
  • Comply with all applicable regulations and Bank policies regarding employment and employment law.
  • Participate in annual compliance and other job-related training.
  • Comply with applicable CRA, Fair Lending, Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), Fair Housing Act, HMDA, RESPA, Truth in Lending and other regulatory requirements.
  • Protect the confidentiality, privacy and security of customer and Bank information in accordance with Bank policies and applicable law.
