About The Position

WDAY, the number #1 station located in the Fargo, ND-Moorhead, MN metro area, broadcasts across the entire state of North Dakota, Western Minnesota, and Eastern South Dakota. WDAY is an award-winning station, taking home multiple Emmy awards as well as regional and national Edward R Murrow awards in recent years. They produce more live, local sports coverage than anyone in the region, and are the proud home of North Dakota State University Athletics and North Dakota High School Activities State Tournaments. WDAY is part of Forum Communications Company, a 5th-generation family-owned media company, and produces over 40 hours of local news, weather, and sports content each week, making them the most watched news station in the state of North Dakota and Western Minnesota. The Morning News Producer will manage the end-to-end production of news segments, from concept through broadcast. Collaborate closely with reporters, anchors, and directors to ensure content is timely, accurate, and aligned with editorial standards. This role is responsible for maintaining consistency in presentation while meeting strict deadlines in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment. This is a full-time position, and candidates should have availability between 12am-8am, Monday - Friday, and additionally on weekend mornings, as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Journalism, Communications, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
  • Strong understanding of television production techniques, newsroom workflows, and broadcast standards.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to prioritize and deliver compelling content.
  • Experience communicating effectively with studio crew and on-air talent during live broadcasts.
  • Ability to coordinate with production staff and leadership to uphold standards and consistency.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, sound judgment, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with reporters and anchors to shape the overall look, tone, and flow of newscasts.
  • Develop daily rundowns, schedules, and segment plans to ensure efficient broadcast execution.
  • Collaborate with reporters to write, edit, and refine scripts for on-air delivery.
  • Select and approve video footage and supporting visuals for the morning news broadcast.
  • Oversee live and recorded production processes, ensuring quality control, accuracy, and adherence to deadlines.
  • Coordinate logistics and communication across production teams to support seamless broadcasts.
