About The Position

In consultation with the Network Director, the Volunteer Engagement Specialist is responsible for developing and managing a quality volunteer program and coordinating the daily functions of Volunteer Services at their assigned campus(es). This role involves identifying hospital needs for volunteers and related support, coordinating volunteer efforts with various departments, and acting as an internal consultant to design new programs and address volunteer issues. The specialist is also responsible for recruiting, screening, interviewing, selecting, assigning, and evaluating volunteers, as well as providing orientation, training, and initial introductions. A key aspect of the position is overseeing risk management for volunteers to ensure compliance with health care industry laws and regulations. The specialist will also counsel volunteers, process applications, maintain records, provide recognition for service, and support various specialty programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (experience in lieu of degree will be considered)
  • Strong organizational skills to develop and run programs
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member on multiple projects
  • Adept at computers

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in recruiting, interviewing, training and supervision of students/adults in volunteer program/setting
  • Experience in Word, Excel, Power Point, Publishing and Outlook
  • Familiarity with a volunteer tracking program

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Network Director in identifying hospital needs for volunteers and related support.
  • Coordinates the efforts of the volunteers with various departments acting as an internal consultant to design new programs and address volunteer issues.
  • Recruits, screens, interviews, selects, assigns and evaluates volunteers.
  • Provides an orientation for new volunteers, arranges appropriate training and first day introductions.
  • Oversees risk management of volunteers to ensure policies and procedures are in compliance with health care industry laws and regulations.
  • Counsels volunteers and provides corrective action when approved standards of performance are not met, notifying the Network Director when chronic or severe.
  • Processes, organizes and maintains volunteer applications of accepted and current volunteers following established office protocol.
  • Provides recognition of service through awards, daily interaction and arranges for/collaborates with the development of the National Volunteer Week celebration.
  • Arranges for/ awards the High School Student Scholarship award.
  • Keeps the Network Director informed by written and verbal reports.
  • Supplies monthly departmental updates and actively participates in process improvement and goal setting.
  • Provides leadership support for the department, in the absence of the Network Director.
  • Maintains volunteer schedules, absences and hourly records via the appropriate volunteer tracking program.
  • Obtains volunteer substitutes in key areas as necessary.
  • Addresses attendance issues as they arise.
  • Promotes/advertises volunteer engagement locally either in person, through online volunteer advertisements, local newspapers, career fairs, recruitment events, etc.
  • Coordinates and/or collaborates with departments with special programs provides support for various specialty programs as related to their campus: Premedical and PA Observer Program, Research Volunteers, etc.
  • Prepares office correspondence, volunteer mailings, orders uniforms, name tags, regular review of assignment guides, check requests, purchase orders, collects mail daily and ensures an organized and clean department.
  • Keeps current with software programs and web-based tracking program used in the department.
  • Other duties as requested.
