A tool was developed for FBV use while standing up new colo environments that allows us to quickly compare configurations server by server in all environments to identify problem areas. There is an opportunity to enhance this tool to become a valuable daily Prod and non-Prod resource for identifying anomalies both proactively for configuration drift as well as reactively as an immediately available source of reference during a production incident. The proposal would be to add automation and to display the results in a visual fashion. Developers and production support resources can instantly see the current condition of all environments at any given time. The data points can include basics like directory structure and ownership, account permissions, or more advanced items such as WebSphere custom configs, database auto-extends settings, and TLS encryption levels. Within a couple of months, this could be demo'd for the Check processing as an example for other business lines. Most of the key data points are applicable across systems, so it is very portable to other areas. The enhanced tool would be valuable for ensuring Colo environment parity ahead of ACH colo cutover. Unlike other tools, ALL environments are available in a single view as opposed to a single server or application. This capability could significantly improve system stability, reduce configuration drift, and identify abnormalities before they become problems as opposed to relying on generated alerts after a problem occurs.
