About The Position

Performs set up of cardiac telemetry including patient preparation. Monitors patients on telemetry by computer or trans telephonically. Evaluates cardiac rhythms and notifies the appropriate persons about serious or life-threatening arrhythmias. Creates and types over read reports. Processes and maintains appropriate patient and departmental records. Performs ECGs as needed. Hook up Holter and cardiac event monitors as needed. Maintains and promotes Saint Louis University Hospital service standards.

Requirements

  • High School or equivalent
  • 0-6 months training/experience in arrhythmia monitoring or equivalent Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training
  • May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases.
  • Subject to electrical and radiant energy hazards.
  • Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances.
  • Handles emergency or crisis situations.
  • Occasionally subjected to irregular hours.
  • Occasional prolonged standing/walking.
  • Occasionally lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients.
  • Lifts supplies/equipment.
  • Requires manual dexterity and mobility.
  • Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, pulling 100+ pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Performs telemetry monitoring (35%)
  • Performs real time arrhythmia monitoring (30%)
  • Provides back-up coverage for ECG Department (5%)
  • Provides back-up coverage for the Holter Department (5%)
  • Processes reports (3%)
  • Performs other Heart Station duties (2%)
  • Practices according to safety and infection control policies (5%)
  • Provides service excellence to the customers of Saint Louis University Hospital by delivering timely, high quality care in a courteous and respectful manner (10%)
  • Incorporates Quality Assessment into one’s daily work (5%)
  • Provides age-appropriate care to Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric patients
  • Provides specialized care to patients at high risk for injury (<1%)
