About The Position

Monitors telemetry patients for cardiac arrhythmia and notifies nurse of changes. This role involves continuously monitoring arrhythmias and notifying staff of changes, accurately documenting rhythm strips according to unit specifications, and accurately measuring and interpreting cardiac rhythms. The technician will also enter patient information and data into the telemetry/computer system and communicate rhythm interpretations to nursing staff and providers. The position requires access to minimal risk medications and IV fluids, adherence to MUSC Standards of Behaviors, and performance of miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.
Certification as an EKG technician or successful completion of a telemetry program from another facility or Patient Care Technician with EKG certification required or 1 year experience or completion of our basic arrythmia within 6 months.
Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain.
Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
Ability to stand up to twelve (12) hours, walk, sit, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, talk, hear and smell.
Able to lift or exert energy up to 35 pounds.
Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); peripheral vision (ability to observe area that can be seen move up/down or left/right) and depth perception (three-dimensional vision (ability to judge distances).
Must possess to ability to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
Ability to effectively present information one on one or in small group situations to families, patients, visitors or staff.
All staff members must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to meet the physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related needs of the persons in the assigned work area.
This position primarily interacts with all age groups and provides direct/indirect patient care.
Staff members must be able to understand and respond to the expectations and needs of patients, family members and visitors from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience as a monitor technician preferred but not required.
