The Monitor Technician is responsible for initiating, discontinuing, and maintaining telemetry monitoring as ordered by physicians. This includes admitting or discharging patients to the monitoring system, changing batteries and electrodes, and cleaning equipment. The technician will review alarm trends at the end of each shift and report findings to the oncoming shift. They will record telemetry strips every 4 hours, provide them to the RN, and at the beginning of each shift, print and document PR, QRS, QT, HR, date, time, and mount the strip for RN validation. The role involves monitoring and reviewing patient information to determine baseline cardiac rhythm analysis and variance from baseline, seeking assistance for unusual rhythms, and notifying the RN of cardiac rhythm variances that indicate pacemaker malfunction.
