About The Position

The Monitor Technician/Unit Secretary performs reception and clerical functions for the patient care unit to meet the needs of nursing staff and other care providers and ensures the accurate monitoring and reporting of patient cardiac rhythms. Performs computer order entry, maintains patient charts in correct filing order, and communicates activities, results, and status of orders to medical and nursing personnel. Assists with making follow up patient appointments upon discharge and responds to patient call lights as needed. Orders equipment and supplies and responds to other requests by nursing personnel for resources to meet department needs. Monitors and interprets cardiac rhythms, maintains the cardiac monitoring system, responds to the fire alarm and meets other requests by nursing personnel to meet patient needs.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent required.
  • Must successfully pass cardiac rhythm written examination.
  • Written and verbal English proficiency required.
  • Basic skills with computers and office equipment required.
  • Attention to detail, including accuracy and thoroughness.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of the Basic Cardiac Monitoring Course or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • Clerical experience in a healthcare environment with knowledge of medical terminology and electronic medical records preferred.
  • Excellent customer service, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized individual with ability to manage and prioritize daily work assignments.
