About The Position

The Monitor Technician is responsible for monitoring, identifying, and reporting cardiac rhythm patterns and changes, as well as maintaining cardiac monitoring equipment. This role involves observing EKG patterns for all assigned patients, providing accurate and timely cardiac rhythm information to healthcare providers, and immediately notifying the RN of any irregularities. The technician is also responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting cardiac monitoring equipment.

Requirements

  • High School or GED
  • Vocational/Technical Diploma
  • Successful completion of EKG recognition course or health care courses
  • 0 None As a monitor tech and/or experience in health care setting
  • Operating specialized electronic test equipment and recording devices
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent time-management and organization skills

Responsibilities

  • Monitors, identifies, and reports cardiac rhythm patterns and changes.
  • Observes scope for normal and abnormal EKG patterns for all monitored patients as assigned.
  • Provides accurate and timely cardiac rhythm information to the appropriate health care provider.
  • Notifies appropriate RN immediately of any change and/or irregularity in the patient's EKG pattern.
  • Recognizes and documents EKG rhythm every two (2) hours while on telemetry and as needed.
  • Maintains cardiac monitoring equipment (including space lab and transmitters).
  • Cleans and maintains equipment.
  • Provides initial troubleshooting.
  • Notifies biomed of malfunctioning equipment.
  • Keeps inventory and documents when equipment is under repair.
  • Keeps inventory of monitors and documents incoming and outgoing transmitters.
