Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED, upon hire
  • One year of Monitor Technician experience
  • Emergency Medical Technician: AZ, upon hire or Certified EKG Tech, upon hire

Nice To Haves

  • Yearly EKG competency completed 100% on lethal arrhythmias
  • No error noted by EKG certified RNs
  • Complete yearly competency with 80% or more accuracy
  • Proper documentation/ approval of parameter changes by Physician order or an ECG certified RN

Responsibilities

  • Continuous observation and analysis of patients' cardiac rhythms to detect and report changes.
  • Meticulously monitor EKG strips, identify arrhythmias, measure intervals, and promptly communicate critical findings to nursing staff and healthcare providers.
  • Ensure accurate documentation.
  • Read basic EKG tracings and identify potential/lethal arrhythmias.
  • Measure important intervals of the EKG strips.
  • Check and maintain accurate settings of "yellow alarms" for each shift.
  • Properly admit a patient to the monitoring system including patients' last name/first initial, medical record, diagnosis and physician's name.
  • Continuously monitor and identify dry rhythm changes during a 12-hour shift.
