The Monitor Technician I is responsible for recording electrocardiograms (EKGs) of customers ranging in age from newborn to geriatric. This role ensures that EKGs are transmitted from cart to MUSE EKG Computer System, utilizes patient identifiers, places telemetry transmitter packs, and communicates with the monitor technician for verification of signal. The technician delivers cardiac rhythm strips from the Cardiac monitoring station to various nursing units and posts these strips in specified unit locations during periods of medical record downtime. Additional duties include performing miscellaneous tasks related to cardiac monitoring, such as troubleshooting telemetry transmitter packs (e.g., replacing electrodes, changing batteries, changing wires), and assisting in the search and retrieval of misplaced telemetry transmitter packs and cardiac pacemakers. The role also involves understanding the hospital's strategic plan within the scope of an EKG technician, interpreting and following physician's orders, triaging workload, and representing Cardio-Respiratory Services in support of departmental and organizational principles. The position promotes patient and employee safety, a safe environment, and understands the Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals as they pertain to the EKG technician role. Assisting with new staff onboarding and conducting department orientation may also be required.
