About The Position

The Monitor/Aide assists the driver in safely operating the route and manages students as defined or identified by the school. The role helps transport children safely to and from school, supports students during boarding and exiting, and communicates with drivers, school personnel, parents, and students. The position also includes safety procedures, bus inspections, cleaning, and other specialized functions required by contract.

• Ability to use or learn to use the internet, required programs, office equipment, fax machines, phones, and other electronic devices.
• Ability to successfully complete a dexterity test and DOT physical and comply with the drug-free workplace policy.
• Ability to perform the listed physical tasks, including lifting up to 40 pounds and assisting with student evacuations involving dragging up to 120 pounds for up to 40 feet.
• Ability to communicate in English with passengers, parents, school officials, dispatch, and the driver.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Learn and follow a route sheet or electronic routing device.
• Manage students and communicate behavior problems to the driver.
• Assist with pre-trip and post-trip bus inspections, including child checks, CSRS, and wheelchair lifts.
• Assist students with loading and unloading, including use of the wheelchair lift.
• Cooperate and communicate with school personnel, parents, and students.
• Attend safety and training meetings.
• Conduct emergency bus evacuations, including through the emergency door.
• Clean the inside of the bus, including sweeping, dusting, and cleaning windows.
• Perform other specialized functions as required by contract.
