About The Position

The Money Management Caseworker will provide casework support to individuals on the Budget Management Program in accordance with contract obligations, policies and procedures, The Salvation Army’s mission, values, and standards. The primary responsibility of the caseworker is to work alongside clients to develop independent money management skills.

Requirements

  • Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of two academic years.
  • A combination of experience and education deemed equivalent may be considered.
  • Two years but less than three years of related experience.
  • Previous experience in a social services/mental health setting.
  • Experience with program facilitation, administrative duties, and program development.
  • Experience performing administrative tasks.
  • Current First Aid/CPR.
  • Valid Criminal Record and Vulnerable Services Check.
  • Driver’s License and Clean Driver’s Abstract.
  • Competence in developing and maintaining appropriate client relationships and interagency relations.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (written and oral).
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently.
  • Detail-oriented skills and ability to juggle multiple cases.
  • High standards of integrity, judgment, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public, government, business leaders, and professionals.
  • Strong commitment to and ability to clearly articulate the mission statement, values, and beliefs of The Salvation Army.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with community development considered an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and video conferencing applications (i.e., Microsoft Teams and Zoom).
  • Ability to enter data and perform statistical analysis efficiently and accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Casework: Foster growth in clients with life skills and money management through one-on-one sessions, group support, and workshops.
  • Manage an assigned caseload of Ministry of Social Services Tier One Trustee clients, completing intakes/discharges and maintaining case files with required documentation.
  • Prepare monthly budget plans with clients to set financial goals, develop milestones, and ensure income assistance benefits are disbursed effectively.
  • Conduct individual sessions with clients, documenting the nature of each session and discussions with Social Workers.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients to discuss budget progress and build life skills for independence.
  • Connect clients with internal and external agencies to provide comprehensive care.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and current file records of income, expenses, and funds issued.
  • Prepare necessary forms for clients (e.g., OAP, CPP Benefits).
  • Participate in cheque distribution and preparation for bills, expenses, and personal allotments.
  • Maintain the client management database with all required information.
  • Prepare and facilitate Budget management seminars or group education opportunities.
  • Assist clients with finding accommodations, food, and mediating with creditors.
  • Participate in department staff meetings and strategic planning.
  • Connect clients to Salvation Army supports (e.g., Pathways of Hope Worker, Addictions Counsellor, Pastor).
  • Help clients address underlying barriers to money mismanagement (social, mental, physical, spiritual wellbeing).
  • Uphold the mission and values of The Salvation Army in all tasks.
  • Administration: Complete monthly spreadsheets for Social Services to track client progress.
  • Keep detailed records of case notes on client files.
  • Support administration staff in creating accurate client budgets.
  • Monitor and maintain client expenditures, ensuring strong internal control practices.
  • Maintain and control all current/past client records.
  • Assist in preparing cheque requests and emailing them to THQ.
  • Assist with administrative duties, including answering phones, greeting clients, payables/receivables, and data management.
  • Answer phone calls/emails regarding client questions and concerns, ensuring teamwork and congruent information.
  • Maintain regular contact with Ministry of Social Services Income Assistance worker regarding client finances and casework.
  • Support administrative staff with daily mail, monthly accounting reports, requesting/administering cheques, recording income, sorting cheques, and communicating with Social Assistance.
  • Assist front desk staff with cheque distribution at the beginning of the month and assist clients at the front desk.
  • Track statistical information as required.
