The Molecular Technologist is responsible for performing patient testing in the laboratory. This position reports to the Technical Supervisor/ General Supervisor. Essential Job Functions include performing complex clinical testing in operations and R&D settings, preparing human biological material for genetic analysis (buccal swabs, blood, body fluids, and/or tissues), analyzing test results for acceptability against set controls, and entering findings into the computer database. The role also involves operating complex equipment for specimen preparation, instrument calibration, and assay quality validation, as well as performing cleaning, maintenance, alignment, quality assurance, and troubleshooting on equipment. Maintaining daily/weekly logs and QC documents, preparing stock solutions and reagents, and recording quality control of reagent preparation are also key responsibilities. The technologist must recognize and resolve problems or report them to a supervisor, perform proficiency testing for regulatory compliance, and monitor inventory levels. Additionally, the role may involve developing or assisting in the development and validation of clinical assays, maintaining competence in all laboratory areas, keeping the laboratory space clean, training on new assays, and supervising/training junior laboratory staff. Attending webinars and relevant training, maintaining appropriate certifications, and identifying/elevating Reportable Quality incidents are also part of the job. The position requires handling multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating strong written and verbal communication skills, independent problem-solving abilities, a willingness to accept additional responsibility, the ability to work independently and with a team, and good data entry skills.
